Investment tracking software built natively for Mac, iPhone and iPad.
Banktivity gives Apple users a serious investment tracking tool — portfolio performance, lot-specific selling, IRR, ROI, capital gains reporting and more — all in the same app as your budget and net worth.
What You Can Track
Every kind of investment, in one place.
Banktivity supports a wide range of investment types — stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, bonds, stock options, and more. Each investment account works like a standard Banktivity account, with a register that tracks every transaction: buys, sells, dividends, capital gains distributions, interest income, return of capital, and cash transfers in and out of your brokerage.
Banktivity also supports securities that are not traded on a public exchange. Private placements, closely held investments, private bonds, CDs — anything you want to track but can't pull a ticker symbol for can be set up with a custom identifier and manually maintained price history. You are not limited to what trades on the NYSE or NASDAQ.
You can also track stock indices like the S&P 500 or NASDAQ as watchlist items, alongside your actual holdings, so you always have a benchmark in view.

IRR and ROI — Real Performance Numbers
Know exactly how your investments are actually performing.
A current market value is useful. But knowing how well an investment has actually performed — accounting for when you bought, how much you paid, dividends received along the way, and when you sold — requires more than a simple balance. Banktivity calculates Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Return on Investment (ROI) across your portfolio, so you get performance numbers that reflect reality.
Return on Investment (ROI)
ROI measures the total gain or loss on an investment relative to its cost. Banktivity calculates ROI at both the individual security level and across your full portfolio, giving you a clear picture of which holdings are pulling their weight and which are not.
Internal Rate of Return (IRR)
IRR accounts for the timing of cash flows — when you bought, when you added more, when you received dividends, and when you sold. It is a more complete measure of investment performance than a simple percentage gain because it factors in how long your money was actually at work. Banktivity calculates IRR and surfaces it throughout the app so you always have an accurate performance picture.
Per-account drill-down on Mac, iPhone and iPad
See performance broken down by individual investment account — not just as a combined portfolio total. The per-account view is available on Mac, iPhone and iPad, so you can check how a specific brokerage or retirement account is performing from whatever device you have in hand.
Investment Performance Widget
The Investment Performance Widget lets you choose a single investment account and see how it's performing today — gains, losses and the biggest movers — without opening the app. Available in multiple sizes on Mac and iPhone home screens.
Lot-Specific Selling
Choose exactly which shares you sell — and why it matters.
When you own multiple lots of the same security — purchased at different times and different prices — which lot you sell affects your tax outcome. Selling shares with a higher cost basis reduces your taxable gain. Selling shares held for more than a year qualifies for long-term capital gains rates. Most investment tracking tools make this decision for you. Banktivity lets you make it yourself.
When recording a Sell transaction in Banktivity, you can specify exactly which lots to sell. Choose the shares that best match your tax strategy — minimizing gains, harvesting losses, or managing your short vs. long-term exposure. Banktivity tracks the cost basis for each lot and reflects your selection accurately in your capital gains report.
Tax loss harvesting made practical
By choosing specific lots when selling, you can sell positions that are currently at a loss to offset gains elsewhere in your portfolio. Banktivity gives you the lot-level visibility and control to execute this strategy without a separate spreadsheet.
Accurate cost basis, always
Banktivity maintains a precise cost basis for every lot in every investment account. Whether you bought shares in ten separate transactions or received shares as a gift, the cost basis is tracked and reflected correctly in your reports and tax calculations.
Capital Gains Reporting
Short-term and long-term gains, clearly separated.
At tax time, knowing your capital gains is essential. Banktivity's capital gains report separates short-term and long-term gains, so you can see exactly what you owe tax on and at what rate. Filter by date range to match your tax year, drill into the detail behind any number, and export to PDF or CSV to share with your accountant.
Because Banktivity tracks the purchase date and cost basis for every lot, the report is built from accurate underlying data — not an estimate. If you have used lot-specific selling throughout the year, the gains report reflects exactly the decisions you made.
Investment Summary report
Beyond capital gains, the Investment Summary report gives you a comprehensive view of portfolio performance — market value, cost basis, unrealized gains and losses, dividends received, and total return — across any time period you choose.
Export for your accountant
Export any investment report to PDF, CSV or tab-delimited format. Whether you work with a CPA or file yourself, Banktivity gives you the data in the format that is most useful.
Organize Your Investment Accounts Your Way
Group accounts the way your financial life is actually structured.
Most people do not have a single investment account. You might have a taxable brokerage, a Roth IRA, a 401k from a current employer, an old 401k you rolled over, and a joint account with a spouse. Keeping track of all of them in a flat list makes it harder to see what you actually care about.
Banktivity lets you organize your investment accounts into custom groups — by account type, by owner, by goal, or by whatever structure makes sense to you. Your taxable accounts in one group, retirement accounts in another. Joint accounts separate from individual. The sidebar reflects your structure, not a generic default layout.
Multiple ledgers for truly separate financial lives
If you manage investments for more than one person or entity — a spouse, a family member, a small business — Banktivity supports multiple independent ledgers in a single app. Each ledger has its own accounts, budget and reports, completely isolated from the others.
Investments Are Just One Part of the Picture
Your portfolio, your budget and your net worth — all in the same app.
A standalone investment tracker shows you how your portfolio is performing. Banktivity shows you how your portfolio fits into your overall financial life. Your investment accounts contribute directly to your net worth calculation alongside your bank accounts, loans and other assets. Your dividends and capital gains can be tracked through your budget. Your goals — retirement, college, a major purchase — are informed by the full picture of your finances, not just a brokerage balance.
This is the difference between tracking investments and actually managing your financial life. Banktivity has been built for the latter since Ian Gillespie founded the company in Oregon in 2001. Investment tracking depth that serious users depend on, inside a native Mac, iPhone and iPad app that feels at home on Apple devices.
