Budgeting, investment tracking, net worth, retirement planning and more — all in a native Mac, iPhone and iPad app built for Apple users since 2001.

If you're looking for personal finance software that works natively on your Mac, iPhone and iPad — not a web app, not a Windows program ported over — Banktivity is built specifically for you. Budgeting, investment tracking, net worth, retirement planning and reporting all in one app, designed exclusively for the Apple ecosystem since 2001.

Who Uses Banktivity

Built for the whole Apple ecosystem — Mac, iPhone and iPad.

Banktivity is not a web app dressed up in a native wrapper. It is built from scratch for macOS, iOS and iPadOS — which means it behaves the way Apple users expect software to behave. End-to-end encrypted cloud sync keeps everything in step across your devices automatically. The same features you rely on at your desk are available on your iPhone at the grocery store and your iPad on the couch.

Powerful and Flexible Budgeting

Budget the way that works for you.

Banktivity supports both traditional category budgeting and Envelope budgeting — so whether you prefer a simple monthly spending plan or a more intentional zero-based approach, the app works the way you think about money, not the other way around.

Banktivity’s envelope budgeting helps you plan every dollar before you spend it — so you’re always ahead of irregular expenses and always know exactly where you stand. Traditional budgeting gives you a clean, straightforward monthly view by category. Either way, your budget lives on your Mac, iPhone and iPad — always in sync, always current. Coming from YNAB? You’ll get the same envelope approach, plus investment tracking, net worth, retirement planning and goals — all in one place.

Net Worth Tracking

The one number that tells you if you are actually making progress.

Your checking account balance tells you what you have today. Your net worth tells you where you are going. Banktivity pulls together everything — bank accounts, investment accounts, loans, real estate and other assets — into a single net worth view that updates automatically and tracks your trajectory over time.

Most budgeting apps show you your spending. Banktivity shows you your whole financial picture. That's one of the reasons people who outgrow budget-only tools find a home here.

Investment Tracking

Your portfolio and your budget, in the same app.

Serious personal finance means more than tracking what you spend — it means understanding how your investments are performing and how they fit into your overall financial picture. Banktivity handles the full depth of investment tracking that power users depend on, without requiring a separate tool.

Buys, sells, dividends, options, ROI, IRR, capital gains, lot-specific trading — it is all here. And because it’s part of the same app as your budget and net worth, you can see how your investments fit into your complete financial picture at any time. Switching from Quicken? The investment tracking depth you depended on comes with you.

Reports & Insights

Understand your money — not just track it.

Tracking transactions is table stakes. What Banktivity adds is the ability to actually understand what those transactions mean — where your money went, how your spending has changed over time, what your income looks like across different categories, and where you need to make adjustments. Rich, customizable reports make all of that visible without requiring a spreadsheet.

Reports run on Mac and travel with you on iPhone and iPad. Export to PDF, CSV or tab-delimited when you need to share with your CPA or keep records outside the app.

Plan Ahead

Personal finance software should help you get somewhere — not just record where you have been.

Banktivity includes dedicated goal planning tools that most personal finance software does not offer. Whether you are working toward an emergency fund, paying down debt, saving for a down payment or thinking seriously about retirement, you can set a target, build a plan and track your progress over time. Banktivity's powerful retirement planning incorporates social security, pension payouts, growth and inflation parameters and more.

Coming From Another App?

Your history comes with you.

One of the biggest hesitations about switching personal finance apps is losing years of transaction history. Banktivity imports directly from most major apps and file formats, so your accounts, categories, balances and history make the move with you. You do not start from scratch.

We have put together dedicated switching guides for the apps people most commonly move from:

Built by Apple Users, for Apple Users

Twenty-five years of building one thing well.

I'm Ian Gillespie, and I started building this software in 2001 out of a simple frustration: there was no personal finance software that felt truly at home on a Mac. So I built one. It was called iBank then, and it was just me.

In 2007, Apple awarded iBank an Apple Design Award — recognition that the app we were building was doing something right. That meant a lot to a one-person shop, and it set the tone for everything that followed.

Over the years iBank became Banktivity, the team grew to just under 20 people, and the app grew with it — deeper budgeting, investment tracking, goal planning, native iPhone and iPad apps, encrypted cloud sync. But the core mission never changed. We are a small team based in Oregon, we build only for Apple platforms, and we care deeply about getting the details right.

Today Banktivity serves former Quicken users who wanted a real Mac experience, YNAB users who wanted more than a budget, Monarch users looking for a change, and people who just want powerful personal finance software that feels like it was built for the devices they love. Which it was.

Apple Design Award — 2007

Apple recognized iBank with a Design Award in 2007, honoring the craftsmanship and user experience we had built into the app. It was an early validation that building specifically and carefully for Apple users was the right path.

A small team with a long memory

We are under 20 people, all focused on one product. That means the people who answer your support questions are the same people who build the app. When you contact Banktivity support, you reach a real person in the US who knows the software deeply — not a contractor reading from a script.

Your data stays yours

We do not monetize your financial data. Your information is stored locally on your devices and synced with end-to-end encryption. We cannot see it, and we do not sell it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best personal finance software for Mac?

Banktivity is comprehensive personal finance software built specifically for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Unlike web-based tools that run in a browser, or Windows software ported to Mac, Banktivity is designed from the ground up for macOS and iOS — which means it behaves like native Mac software, works offline, and integrates with the Apple ecosystem. It covers budgeting, investment tracking, net worth, retirement planning, goal setting and reporting in a single app.

Is there a good personal finance app for both Mac and iPhone?

Yes — Banktivity runs natively on Mac, iPhone and iPad with end-to-end encrypted sync across all three. The same features are available on every device: check your budget on your iPhone at the grocery store, review your investment portfolio on your iPad, and reconcile accounts and run reports on your Mac. One subscription covers all your Apple devices.

How long has Banktivity been around?

Banktivity has been in continuous development since 2001, when founder Ian Gillespie built the first version — then called iBank — as a one-person project. The app won an Apple Design Award in 2007 and has been growing steadily since. Today it is developed by a team of under 20 people based in Oregon.

Is Banktivity only for Mac?

Banktivity runs natively on Mac, iPhone and iPad. It is not available for Windows or Android. If you are in the Apple ecosystem, every device you own is covered by a single subscription.

How does Banktivity sync across my devices?

How much does Banktivity cost?

Banktivity is a subscription starting at $59.99 per year, covering Mac, iPhone and iPad.

The forecast chart shows your target versus actual savings so you can always see whether you are on track.

Who do I contact if I need help?

Our support team is US-based and knows the software deeply — because they help build it. Unlimited email and live chat support is included with every subscription. You will reach a real person, not a bot or a contractor.
